CK - Washington. Berlin Attorney General Brigitte Zypries published a press release on April 11, 2006 with a proposal to reward witnesses who materially support investigations into crimes, Kronzeugen. The current law is considered ineffective, open to abuse and too limited in the types of crimes covered. The proposed changes to the Criminal Code, Strafgesetzbuch, will extend to all crimes, increase penalties for false accusations, and limit eligibility for reduced sentences to disclosures made before the criminal trial opens.
